Happy birthday to you … Happy brithday to you! (and Anarriê!) To celebrate the Nicholas’ birthday in a Brazilian style,we had a mini Festa Junina (June Party):-) It was very yummy! At the entrance of the house had typical flags and a balloon. We also got a straw hat for Nick who also had on the traditional stripped shirt. Marquinho also came dressed as a character. To eat we had popcorn, Brazilian cheese bread, Brazilian Kale and potato soup (Thank you Paulinha!), baked sausage pie, skewers of meat and chicken, Brazilian white corn sweet soup, Brazilian peanut brurrer, cake, quindim, a Brazilian desert with eggs and cocunut (Thanks Cristina!) and three large trays with a variety of traditional Brazilian party sweets treats. Oh, besides beer, juice and sodas, we also had warm wine (Cousin Selma, muchas gracias!) and batida, another traditional Brazilian shot drink make with cachaça, Brazilian rum.
Nati had a 1 year old birthday party, so I was feeling guilty for not doing anything for Nicholas. This idea of Festa Junina worked for us because adults would end up enjoying as well. Not to mention that our American friends know how to appreciate a different culture, and enjoyed the party as much as the Brazilians. I think everyone had fun, we had a very cool group. I know that everyone ate a little of everything and loved all of it. The birthday boy was trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Now, we didn’t have any square dancing this time although we had te music rolling throughout the party. Maybe next time… and there will be a next time!
